The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE will be installed as Archbishop of Canterbury today at Canterbury Cathedral.
Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said:
“We welcome the recognition of carers at this landmark ceremony, reflecting the vital role they play in supporting families, communities and our wider society.
“We were delighted to welcome the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE in her capacity as Bishop of London and Archbishop of Canterbury designate to our Mary Webster Lecture in London last year - part of Carers UK’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Throughout her career, as a nurse, health official, and now priest, she has built up a deep understanding of care and caring, including caring unpaid for relatives and friends. Being an unpaid carer can be profoundly rewarding, offering the chance to make a significant difference in someone’s life, as well as incredibly exhausting and lonely at times.
“Women are more likely to provide unpaid care throughout their lives, and we are pleased to see that today’s ceremony will reflect women’s voices. We wish the Archbishop of Canterbury well on this important day as she steps into this prestigious new role and we look forward to continuing working with her on care and caring.”
