“Andy Burnham's appointment as Prime Minister offers an important opportunity to improve support for the UK’s 5.8 million unpaid carers. His commitment to “put the care of people at the heart of everything” he does is an important signal of intent - this is just what we need for unpaid carers and the disabled, ill and older family and friends they care for.

“Unpaid carers are under immense pressure, with many struggling to make ends meet while balancing work and caring responsibilities. Measures to tackle the cost of living crisis will be vital in helping to ease the financial pressures that carers continue to face.

“We are encouraged by the new Prime Minister’s recent emphasis on social care and look forward to hearing more about the Government’s plans for reform soon.
