Christine Robertson and Joe McCready from the Carers Scotland team were thrilled to visit the BBC Studios at Pacific Quay in Glasgow to be part of their live roadshow for Caring Matters Week.
We joined a selection of carer organisations and services in the foyer with our information stand and were able to have some really valuable conversations with unpaid carers who were attending the event.
The Roadshow went out live on BBC Radio Scotland as part of their Caring Matters Week as a special 2 hour show highlighting unpaid carers and the challenges that they face. Joe was part of the panel during the second hour of the show, speaking to host, Connie McLaughlin, about the issues faced by working carers, and how carers can access more informal types of support.
We would also like to thank the carers who attended on the day as part of the audience, as well as those who called and texted into the show, candidly speaking about their experiences as carers and what they think about the main issues that they face.
With Carers Week coming up on the 8th – 15th June, and this year’s theme of ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’ these kinds of events are hugely valuable for raising the image of caring. By building awareness about the issues that unpaid carers face, we can work towards a society where carers are supported and valued.
