Carers allowance irregular earner

For information and discussion about benefits
Hi everyone im looking for some advice regarding carers allowance. So i applied in january and i called them on thursday for an update. The lady said my previous wages were under the £502 limit but my february wage was £18 over therefore id be classed as an irregular earner. She said a form had been sent out ive to fill it in and send it back, can someone tell me what the form is for? And also how do payments work? Will i still get backdated money from january until they sort my claim out? Ive too send in march, april and may payslips when i have all 3 so will i get paid until may when i send the payslips in? Its so confusing

Hi Tia ... a holding reply pending the cavalry arriving.

Google search .... Carers Allowance irregular earning ... throws up numerous references including a few old postings on this very forum :

One very similar to your own circumstances from two years ago :

Main thread from the top of the CARER & DISABILITY BENEFITS section :

Carers allowance and earning over £120 per week.
Carers UK's own factsheet on Carers Allowance covers irregular earnings and how the DWP assess them - here:
https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advic ... -allowance

It's also worthwhile noting that the current earnings threshold of £116 will be increased to £120 per week from April this year.

It would also benefit you to think about paying into a private pension plan - 50% of any payments made can be deducted from your earnings to bring you below the threshold. So if you earn £120 per week with the current threshold of £116 per week you would need to pay £8 per week into a pension plan - £4 of which would be deducted from your earnings of £120 bringing you down to the current limit of £116 per week. Double benefit as you continue to get CA and build up a small pension pot at the same time.
Thanks for the replies. Ive read through some of the older threads and it doesnt give me any answers to the questions about payments or if they still give you back dated money etc

Sam
Carer's Allowance can usually only be backdated for a maximum of three months if you claim it within three months of a decision to award a qualifying benefit to the person you care for.

Another forum thread will be of immediate assistance :

Samantha, it takes time to process a claim. Normally you are paid from the date you apply to DWP for a new claim, or the date you submit the form.
