We were disappointed to learn earlier this week that the Department for Health and Social Care’s Carers Innovation Fund programme, announced last summer to reduce loneliness amongst carers, has been suspended. DHSC intends to use the budget to support carers via other means in due course.
Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said:
“We are disappointed that the Carers Innovation Fund has been suspended. Many of us in the care sector had submitted thoughtful, useful ideas to help carers become more connected with others in their communities.
“Innovation is exactly what is needed right now to get carers through this pandemic – projects that help carers cope with fatigue and loneliness is what they need most. We look forward to hearing how this funding will be deployed at the earliest opportunity to help get carers the support they need.”
