Role and focus of the APG on Carers

The All Party Group (APG) on Carers brings together MLAs from across political parties to raise awareness of the role of unpaid carers in Northern Ireland and ensure public policy from all Executive Departments positively impacts on their lives. 

The APG was first established in January 2021 and was reconstituted in June 2022 following the Northern Ireland Assembly election.

Future meetings

The Chancellor has earmarked £75 million over the next three years to put right the failures that led to the Carer’s Allowance overpayments scandal. Yesterday’s commitment to reassess cases where averaging of earnings could have reduced overpayments is a vital step towards addressing the injustices carers have faced for far too long.
