September sessions
Join us with Dawn Fallon who will take us through her travel memoir Globetrotting With Disabled Don - from Cannes to the Caribbean with wheelchairs and walking sticks, which spans over thirty years of travel with her husband Don who was born with spina bifida. Dawn will talk about her challenges on her travels as well as her role as a carer. There will also be opportunities for you to ask questions and share your own reflections and experiences. Book here
Dr. Mucci, a consultant physician for older adults brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of geriatric medicine and healthy ageing. Her expertise covers a broad spectrum of topics, including physical health, mental wellbeing, and the social factors that contribute to ageing gracefully and healthily. During this talk, Dr. Mucci will cover: understanding ageing and frailty; promoting physical health: mental and emotional wellbeing; polypharmacy and practical advice for carers. Book here
If you’ve reached State Pension age, you may be able to claim Pension Credit to top up your income if it is low. We know that lots of people who are eligible for Pension Credit do not claim it. Join us for an informative session where our Helpline adviser Liz will be offering guidance on Pension Credit, how to know if you are entitled to it, and how to claim it.
*The government has recently announced plans to change the eligibility criteria for Winter Fuel Payments. However, those claiming Pension Credit will remain eligible. Book here
Join us to unwind together, relax and explore our inner landscape, whatever your beliefs. This session will be guided by Mariano Marcigaglia, a Spiritual Care volunteer who has been meditating for over 40 years and is currently helping with the running of equivalent sessions for the out-patients of the Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta, Milan, as well as at The Royal Marsden. It will consist of the cultivation of embodied awareness both in formal sitting and in daily life, as well as the development of goodwill and compassion towards ourselves and others. Book here
October sessions
Join us during Liver Cancer Awareness month with Louise, an outreach development officer from the British Liver Trust. The British Liver Trust are the largest UK liver charity for people affected by a liver condition and lead the fight against liver disease and liver cancer. Louise will talk to us about the UK liver disease crisis, why we need to raise awareness, provide tips on how to ‘Love your Liver’ and share information on the free support available for anyone affected by a liver condition. Join us with Hazel Carter who was a carer for her mum, who had vascular dementia, when her husband was diagnosed with terminal motor neurone disease (MND). Hazel gave up work to care for him. Since her husband passed away (just before lockdown), Hazel has written a book about the couple’s journey and is now a campaigner on behalf of carers. She has spoken about her experiences, and shared tips to avoid burn out, to hundreds of people around the UK. When not public speaking she supports carers as a volunteer at her local hospice. There will be opportunities for you to ask questions and share your own reflections and experiences. Book here
Note on signing up to our sessions
Our Share and Learn events are generally bookable via Zoom. Once you have registered by clicking the "Book here" option of the session you wish to attend, you will be sent a confirmation email with a Zoom "join meeting" link. Please note you may not receive your link straight away. If you have registered during the weekend or during out of office hours, you will receive a confirmation email as soon as possible. You will need to register for each Share and Learn individually.
Session recordings
To help more carers enjoy the benefits of Share and Learn, some sessions will be recorded. Only the speaker/facilitator’s section will be publicly shared. If you do not wish to be recorded, you are welcome to turn off your camera/audio during this part of the session.
