Our website includes a directory of local services including carer support groups and local carers' organisations.
Organisations in your area
Here are some organisations who you might want to work with in your area:
Carers Trust is a network of local carers centres and respite care providers – find out if you have a local centre.
Citizens Advice provides free, confidential and independent advice on a wide range of subjects including benefits and debt advice. You can use their website to find your local branch.
Specialist carers groups and organisations, such as Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK or Rethink Mental Illness will know about specific areas of support, and may have additional information about disability benefits.
Local providers like GP surgeries, mental health teams, NHS trusts, local authorities, community care services and hospitals will have details about practical support for carers as well as finances. Local businesses, libraries and schools may also be keen to get involved.
Involve your local Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) partnership manager
Several groups have previously run really successful Carers Rights Day events in partnership with the DWP who have provided advisers, a speaker or run an information stall. They may also be able to help with virtual events.
Partnership managers (note: not in Northern Ireland) act as a focal point within DWP for both benefit and employment-related carer issues and should work to ensure that DWP provides a better service to carers.
Contact your local partnership manager to see what support they can offer your event. Visit gov.uk/government/publications/dwp-partnerships to identify the right group partnership manager who will put you in touch with the most appropriate local partnership manager.
