The coronavirus pandemic, and the effect that it has had on unpaid carers throughout the UK, has showed how important it is for Carers UK to be agile, flexible and creative in everything we do to make life better for carers. The fast-moving, ever-developing situation, coupled with the changing political landscape, has had a huge impact on the lives of carers.

For us to be nimble in reacting to whatever the coming years present, we have created an ambitious direction of travel for Carers UK. This will be overseen by our new values and underpinned by annual business plans, establishing our clear set of priorities, whilst allowing us to be able to respond, at speed, to new and emerging challenges.

Our new vision

Vision 2025 will take Carers UK to our 60th anniversary, an important milestone for which we have set ourselves three core goals to ensure carers are better valued:

  • to create a society that requires carers to be treated equally in all aspects of their lives
  • to connect carers so that no one has to care alone
  • to halve the time it takes for carers to recognise themselves as carers and get the support they need.

During the pandemic, many people found that, overnight, they were caring for family or friends who were older, disabled or seriously ill. The simple fact is that at some point in our lives, most of us will find ourselves caring for someone.

We are determined to deliver our vision, where carers are recognised, valued and supported.
