Carers Wales Responds: Together for a Dementia Friendly Wales (2017-2022)

by Carers Wales 29 March 2017

Carers Wales have responded to the National Assembly of Wales' consultation on 'Together for a Dementia Friendly Wales 2017-22'

The Welsh Government have been seeking views on developing a national dementia strategy for Wales. The consultation's aim has been to look at all aspects of dementia from diagnosis to care.

Carers Wales believes that there needs to be more focus on the carer as they are a valuable asset in both the pre and post diagnosis stage of the illness. This includes the earliest possible identification of the carer, additional support for those carers who are likely to have their own health problems due to the increased likelihood of the carer being elderly and the need for this process to be cross-referenced with the Carers Strategy to ensure the two programs are complementary.
