A Volunteers Week thank you to Carers Wales volunteers

01 June 2020

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. So, I would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to the Carers Wales volunteers. For Carers Wales, the skills and time given by you, our team of volunteers are essential. We are a small staff team and you massively help us increase our ability to make life better for unpaid carers.

CUK Thank You Linear

Now more than ever, the work you do to support unpaid carers and help them access relevant information is crucial. Since the start of 2020, you have given over 300 hours of your time to us. You have reached out to over 450 hidden carers and distributed over 4,000 information booklets digitally and in paper copy. Because of you, 900 more carers are now accessing the support that is available to them. Thanks too to those of you who have willingly shared your caring stories in our press work, our information resources and our campaigning work. This voice is critical in ensuring our work is rooted in the lived experience of carers. I would also like to thank our Carers Wales Advisory Committee members who give their time to shape our work and contribute their valuable feedback. And finally, thank you to all those who have volunteered to fundraise for us this year. These donations enable us to go the extra mile.

I greatly appreciate all your determination and goodwill to support our work in improving the situation for unpaid carers across Wales. Since the pandemic, work has intensified and will continue to do so as we support carers to care for the most vulnerable and at risk in our society. Your role in supporting us to do this effectively will be key. Together we will continue to fight the good fight!

I hope you enjoy the activities Amber and Dawn have lined up for you this week to say thank you, especially your pub quiz on Thursday morning!

A huge thank you and best wishes to you all.

Claire Morgan (Carers Wales Director)
