Me Time Project

The 'Me Time' project was set up as a result of unpaid carers sharing their mental health concerns with Carers Wales. This was intensified by the Coronavirus pandemic and resultant lockdown.  Alongside our continued campaigning work to get carers better access to mental health services, carer breaks and respite care for their loved ones, the Welsh Government commissioned us to provide a programme of online sessions to support carers’ emotional wellbeing.

What carers said?

Carers told us that access to emotional and psychological support was difficult. Factors such as time constraints, lack of respite and cost all impacted on a carers’ ability to access support.

Carers also indicated that the sort of support or activity that they would like to access was diverse. Some were looking for more practical support and advice to assist their their caring role. Others wanted strategies to help manage their mental health so they could continue to support themselves and their loved ones. Many carers also showed a desire to participate in creative and social activities that are difficult to attend in person. These factors were considered in developing our programme.

The sessions are of different lengths and at different times so carers can find something that fits in with their own time table. All the events are online so they can access them in their own homes and all sessions are free to unpaid carers.

We are constantly looking for carers’ suggestions for other types of sessions or activities that would support their mental health and emotional well-being. If you have a suggestion, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

What happens?

Every week Carers Wales puts on sessions at a variety of times during the day, evening and weekend.

The session lengths vary from half an hour to two hours depending on what the session involves. Each session is held on Zoom.
