Carers Allowance briefing to the Social Development Committee

    16 May 2011

Carers Northern Ireland was asked to make a submission on Carers Allowance to the Assembly's Committee for Social Development. We made the point that while many carers are on low incomes ond Carers Allowance is inadequate, for many carers the idea of being recognised and valued is just as important.

    Northern Ireland Budget responses

    16 May 2011

Carers Northern Ireland made a number of submissions on the draft Departmental Budgets. Our main concerns were a lack of detail the absence of a programme and priorities for government to assess the budgets against. Download our responses to OFMDFM, DHSSPS and DSD.

    Consultation on Universal Credit

    15 May 2011

Carers Northern Ireland's response gives a cautious welcome to some of the key principles in the White Paper, which could deliver a simpler, less complex benefits system for disabled people and their families. However we are disappointed that the Government did not take this opportunity to reform Carers Allowance.

    Bill of Rights response

    10 December 2010

Carers Northern Ireland supports a strong and inclusive Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. We are disappointed by the proposals in the current NIO consultation document. We are concerned that the current proposals for a Bill of Rights will not adequately protect the human rights of carers, particularly where those rights conflict with the needs and desires of the person that they care for, or with the interests of the state.
