ILF Consultation Response
DHSSPS ran a consultation on how current users of the Independent Living Fund in Northern Ireland in Northern Ireland can be supported from 1 July 2015, when the current ILF scheme ends. Read our response to the consultation.
Carers play an important role in empowering and supporting people with a long term health condition or disability to live their lives as independently as possible. The Independent Living Fund (ILF) is a lifeline for people with the most severe disabilities as it helps disabled people maintain their independence and alleviates some of the pressure on family members who would otherwise struggle to cope with the expense and intensity of their caring roles.
The consultation presented 5 possible options for supporting ILF users. We are strongly in favour of option two - creating a new ILF scheme for Northern Ireland.
