Carers UK Policy Director awarded OBE in charity’s 50th anniversary year

15 June 2015

In its 50th anniversary year, Carers UK is celebrating the achievements of Emily Holzhausen, its Director of Policy and Public Affairs, who has been awarded an OBE for services to carers in the Queen's birthday honours list for 2015.

The award was a fitting end to a successful Carers Week – one of the UK's largest awareness raising campaigns, which Ms Holzhausen oversees.

Ms Holzhausen has worked on carers issues for 23 years, of which she has spent the past 19 years at Carers UK. She is one of the country's foremost experts on carers' issues. She leads on policy, parliamentary affairs, research and media work at Carers UK, as well as overseeing the charity's advice and information services for carers.

Heléna Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK, says:

"We are delighted for Emily and would like to congratulate her on achieving such a high honour, and one that she is extremely deserving of. It is a very proud moment for Emily and all involved with Carers UK and it couldn't come at a more fitting time, as Carers UK celebrates 50 years of supporting carers.

"Emily has spent almost a quarter of a century fighting for the rights and recognition of carers in the UK and has been instrumental in a number of landmark moments for carers. Emily has overseen carers winning the right to request flexible working, the introduction of Carers Credit, and, for the first time, carers being given equal rights as the people they care for – to name but a few. This is another special moment in the charity's history."

Carers UK is celebrating its 50th anniversary year with one simple message: no one should have to care alone. To find out more, visit:
