Carers' charities welcome NHS commitment to carers

07 May 2014

Carers Trust and Carers UK respond to NHS England carer pledge, launched today at Carers UK's annual State of Caring conference.

In a joint statement responding to the launch of NHS England’s Commitment to Carers, Carers UK and Carers Trust, the UK’s leading carers organisations, said:

"We warmly welcome the NHS’s commitment to carers which for the first time sets out a plan to respond to the needs of the growing number of carers caring unpaid for ill, frail or disabled family and friends.

Too often carers feel ignored by NHS services which do not recognise either carers’ expertise in caring for their family and friends or the toll that caring takes on the carers’ own health.

The real work begins now. The pledges must be put into action and delivered at all levels of the NHS. Carers UK and Carers Trust will work with policy makers and frontline health and social care professionals to make this a reality for millions of carers across the country."

Carers UK is a charity led by carers, for carers – our mission is to make life better for carers.

  • We give expert advice, information and support
  • We connect carers so no-one has to care alone
  • We campaign together for lasting change
  • We innovate to find new ways to reach and support carers
