Care & Support Alliance: Care Crisis lobby

05 March 2012

Around 1,000 older and disabled people, carers and people with long-term conditions from across the country will today travel to Parliament to give MPs a clear message: act now to end the care crisis.

The lobby of Parliament has been organised by the 60 organisations of the Care & Support Alliance including Age UK, Scope, Mencap, Macmillan Cancer Support and Carers UK; and comes as the Government prepares to publish a White Paper on social care and a progress report on the funding of social care later in the spring.

The lobby comes a day after the Care & Support Alliance wrote an open letter to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley saying that 'older and disabled people and their families want to know that they are not going to be let down again', and calling on the Government to 'to seize this opportunity to act' to deliver on structural reform and increased funding for social care.

Families travelling to London to tell their personal stories will be backed up by hundreds more taking part online, in the world's first 'Twobby' (an online lobby, taking place on Twitter and Facebook).
