Kate's marathon and a half blog

Kate Hall from Nutricia – a partner of Carers UK – challenged herself by running a half marathon and marathon for Carers UK.

She ran the first ever Severn Bridge Half Marathon in Wales, before taking on Bournemouth Marathon just two months later. Kate has written a blog, keeping us updated on her training trials and tribulations!

Part one of my challenge now complete!

Whirlwind of a week in the lead up to getting to Wales for the bank holiday weekend in the Wye Valley but worth it. We have really made the most of being back at Granny and Bapa's house and gone for day trips such as the Dean Heritage Centre vroom on a broom trail, Hay on Wye yesterday and going back in time with old Annuals such as Topper and spending far too much on books which was followed by, perhaps making the error of, going up Hay Bluff at the end of the day. Maybe not such a good idea the day before a race but hey, who said you had to think things through.... and the views were fantastic plus the boys, for some bizarre reason, don't protest if you suggest climbing up such a hill but do if you walk by the river...

Wet, wet wet...

Yey, 24 miles. Very sneaky weather today for my long run, some showers but then an all mighty thunderous downpour for the last 10 minutes, which then stopped almost as soon as I had got back home and the sun came out! Now very stiff and need to stretch properly once children are in bed tonight as the rest of the day is focusing on getting to the youth festival in Newbury.

Less than 8 weeks to go after today!

Two weeks until the Severn Bridge Half Marathon which is the lead up to the Bournemouth Marathon. Well at least I have now managed to secure accommodation and just in time as there is not much left! So at least the boys will have a bed for the night before the marathon day and plenty of sea air on the Saturday to encourage a good nights sleep before the day.

Cuts, grazes, getting stung all in the aid of running

Cuts, grazes, getting stung all in the aid of running - I think I need to carry a scythe around!

I am now in the month of the first run - Severn Bridge Half Marathon on the 24th August and in preparation will need to iron on the letters of my name onto the fabulous new Carers UK running vest but having just sewn 4 Beavers badges onto Nathaniel's Beaver top ironing on letters will be a sinch.

My legs still feel like lead so I am really looking forward to a sports massage this Wednesday!

There was a birthday this week for Nathaniel - he was six on Tuesday but of course being a child somehow the birthday lasts a week.

Monday night was making a cake at 9pm and icing before bed in time for when he came home from after school club so we could have a mini celebration, the night before one of his friends very kindly invited him over to celebrate his birthday there and today we are all now recovering as it was his birthday party this morning plus I managed to get my 16mile run in beforehand - not sure if that was foolish or very organised! Now the boys are all outside with nerf guns so I am just hiding indoors.
