6.5 Challenge

9b699d19 bc57 4cda ba7d 57c9983d2f35Want to challenge yourself and raise vital funds for unpaid carers, all from the comfort of your own home? Why not take on your own 6.5 Challenge for Carers UK – it’s free to enter and a great way to stay active and have fun!

There are over 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK looking after a loved one who is older, disabled or seriously ill. That’s why we are asking you to complete a challenge or activity based on the number 6.5 this February.

This could be anything, from running 6.5km a day for a week, to doing 65 burpees, to walking 65,000 steps over 6.5 days. And it doesn’t need to be a physical challenge – you could bake 65 cupcakes, or even give up chocolate or alcohol for 650 hours (that's nearly the whole month of February)! There are no rules – apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise and act safely during this time.

Use your imagination – what you do is entirely up to you. You can do it on your own or as part of a team; why not challenge your colleagues, family, and friends to get involved!

When: February 2021 
Where: From the comfort of your home, garden or local area 
Registration fee: Free! 
Fundraising target: There’s no minimum – set your own target. £65, £650 or whatever you can – reach for the stars!

How to set up your 6.5 Challenge JustGiving page

  1. Follow this link and click ‘Start fundraising’. 
  2. Click the ‘Doing your own thing’ button and fill in the boxes required 
  3. You can claim Gift Aid on your donations, providing your fundraising fits the criteria as stated. For example, you can’t claim Gift Aid on money collected in a raffle. 
  4. Click ‘Create your page’ and you’re ready to go!

Kickstart your fundraising by sharing your JustGiving link with your family, friends, and colleagues on your social media, over email and WhatsApp! You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we’ll send you a Carers UK top to wear with pride as you complete your challenge.

A previous participant of the 6.5 Challenge told us that the event “really encouraged me to not just get more steps and movement into my day but to actually take a lunch break… I’m sleeping;better and have even lost a few pounds!”

Calls to our helpline have more than doubled during the coronavirus pandemic, and we rely on voluntary donations to keep this service running.
