Not Lonely
by Lorna O'Connell
It’s not that I’m lonely
Not at all
It’s just that when I return
After my long walk
I’d like to see a mess in the house
Not made by me
It’s not that I’m alone
Not at all
There is always someone to speak to if you dare
risk a greeting
and people much worse off than me
We’re all the same – all strangers
When we could be friends
It’s not that I need company
Look - the whole world passes by my door
It’s just that
When I reach out my hand
I’d like to touch fingers
Instead of fresh air
