Access to care services this winter

We know that care services were very stretched with staffing in the run-up to this winter, but the speed and coverage of the Omicron COVID-19 variant is resulting in the possibility that many care workers may be absent at work because they’ve tested positive for COVID. This means that unpaid carers might find themselves without vital cover and unable to cope.

In these situations, we would suggest that if there is significant risk to yourself or the person that you care for, you should contact the duty or emergency social services line at your local authority (or trust in NI) in the first instance, stating that there is a safeguarding concern due to lack of available care.

You can find your local authority here:

You should also check what your local carers’ organisation has to offer by way of wellbeing or other support. Find out more here: Local Directory
