Nutrition: carers' experiences

Carers UK and Nutricia have worked together to produce videos featuring carers talking about their own experiences of caring and eating well – whether it's looking after the nutrition of the person they care for, or their own nutrition and wellbeing.

"I didn't see myself as a carer, I just saw myself as a mum"

Carol cares for her son, who has sickle-cell anaemia. She talks about how caring made it hard to find time to look after herself.

"You can't just cook a meal the whole family will eat anymore"

Lucia cared for her dad, who had dementia. She talks about helping her dad to eat well as his condition progressed.

"The more we can share good experiences of what's worked for us... it's reassuring and you can get ideas you haven't thought about"

Margaret cares for her husband, who has dementia. She talks about her husband's problems with swallowing, and the importance of sharing experiences with other carers.

"The food she cooked was nutritious, and I tried to keep that going when I learnt to cook"

Peter cared for his wife, who was diagnosed with MS in the late 1990s. He talks about learning to cook healthy food and look after his nutrition after his wife died.
