Help finding Bariatric equipment! And tips!!

Hello guys and girls! I am a carer to my morbidly obese 38 year old mother. She is completely bed bound/immobile because of her size. I'm looking for new and updated equipment capable of taking care of someone of her size. She's only 5 foot 5 inche's but weighs close to 700 lbs or 50 stone. I'm also looking for tips and advice for handling someone of her size. Thankyou x

Hello Matt and welcome to the forum.

No personal experience but I would suggest contacting your local Occupational Therapy team in the first instance. They should be able to put you on the right track for equipment and aids. I would also expect them to be able to advise you on how best to handle your Mum to avoid any danger to her or yourself.

We have a forum member who cared for her obese brother for a long time, she will have some tips for you.

However, can I ask how old you are, if mum is just 38? Did anyone ask you if you actually wanted to care for her? Would you like to hand over the care to someone else? Did anyone ever tell you you cannot be forced to care?
Social Services should have done a Needs Assessment for mum, and a Carers Assessment for you - updated annually. Has anyone eve mentioned NHS Continuing Healthcare to you. Mum MIGHT qualify.

Hi. I am 19 years old! Im fine caring for my mom. I have helped care for her for many years. I know I don't have to care for her. The NHS have provided equipment in the past. But we ate paying and try to source equipment ourselves this time. The reason we have decided to get new equipment is to handle her ever growing size. Even thought handling her is very difficult and time consuming I am very confident with doing it.

Oh dear Matt, my eldest daughter is nearly 24, and in a relationship, the younger on 19 at university and seemingly rather in love with a lad who has just got his degree. He seems besotted with her too.
I would love to read that you have some fun times as you should be, and very much deserve. Even though admirably you want and do care for your mum.

Can u get the gp to refer her to occuptaional therapist who will do a assesment at home with your mum and help provide equipment.
