Fathers and special needs.

I found this blog full of advice for father out there who are also main carers for their kids with SEN.

http://bit.ly/FathersandSEN

From what I've seen and heard from others, it's very true when it says "Most professionals take the assumption that they will be speaking to the main carer, which they often assume is the mother"

What do you think?

My husband and I both care for our 26 year old son. But if professionals want to speak to the main carere we refer them t our son who is perfectly capable of dealing with them himself - nothing about him, without him as they say Image

These days most professionals just talk to whichever parent turns up, and as Eun says, ideally directly to the client, if they are able to communicate much. I don't think I have ever noticed much difference in attitude, maybe I have an advantage over my wife because I have worked in health and social care so I can speak the lingo. But if we both turn up, they know they are outnumbered and often beat a speedy retreat!
