No one - not even a carer - has the right to have their application approved by their employer. However, if an employer turns down a request, they should give reasons for doing so.
Just to round this off.
I emailed my line manager making my compression request in 2018. I included the supplier fact sheet and my planned structure of work. We met and discussed it fairly promptly and we commenced with a three month trial which began in June 18. No issues were raised and it had continued until works moth balled for C-19. Currently still furloughed.

As for holidays and thanks for asking, I take a €pean motorcycling touring holiday every other year.
