Underlying Carer's Allowance

I am approaching state pension age and will get the full amount. My carer's allowance will stop and I will claim the underlying carer's allowance. Does anyone know how much this will be at a weekly or monthly rate? Also, what advantage is there in claiming the underlying carer’s allowance?

the allowance will continue at the same rate, but is reduced by whatever your state pension amount is. If your pension is more than carers allowance, the entitlement will still continue but it won't be pyable under the overlapping benefit rules

Thank you for your reply. In my forthcoming circumstances, it would be pointless claiming the underlying carer's allowance it appears. I will not claim it, therefore. Such a benefit might be of use to some claimants of course. I am obliged for your information.

Please check with the Helpline on this. Judith was referring to Carers Allowance, NOT to underlying rate.

The underlying rate is different, and can affect, for example, Pension Credit and Council Tax positively. I'm not a specialist in benefits so please get this checked - but I certainly wouldn't assume that there's nothing to be gained.
