Advice needed

Tell us a bit about yourself here.
Hi everyone, I've been caring for an elderly lady who has mobility issues. Basically she had a fall and the hospital just said she had an old fracture, discharged her with morphine and released her back to her daughters care.

The daughter has noticed every time after she has morphine (she begs for it and is always complaining of pain) she starts acting bizarrely. She screams that she needs more medication tears tissues up, and is generally a 2 year old in a 74 year old body.

Personally I think its classic signs of dementia but given these episodes come on after a morphine dose the daughter is not convinced.

Any advice?
Hi Teresa,

I think this needs referring to her GP.

I agree, it sounds like the morphine isn't agreeing with her. I've had it, makes me feel weird. Should normally only be given for short periods, i.e. knee replacements.

Hi. In relation to your problem that you think the one you care for is acting bizarrely after taking the morphine I think that the behaviour must be very challenging for you to deal with and that it is difficult. I hope things get better for you and the cared for family and I would just like to welcome you to the Forum and I hope that you find the Forum beneficial and helpful for you.
You are not alone I am sure that many on here will understand exactly how you feel and offer support. Caring can be a very lonely job and the pandemic has made caring responsibilities challenging as many carers have been socially restricted and unable to attend social groups etc.
Carers UK are running online weekly meet ups for carers and you can find the information on how to register at Care for a Cuppa:-https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advic ... ne-meetups. There is also a weekly meet up called Share and Learn:-https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advic ... e-sessions.
