Government back payments

For anyone who is bereaved or no longer providing care.
What happens to the money owed to someone who has passed away. It should go to a charity.
No, with pensions paid in advance you get a demand from DWP for it's return!

And it's more of a demand rather than I'm sorry to hear....
Technically , the person owing the monies to the deceased is now a debtor of the deceased's estate.

I will assume an unsecured debt ... payment under a Government contract ... perhaps stage payments on a building contract ?

Linked to Carillion by any chance ?

Debt as a percentage of the estate ?

If a will , the Executors have the power to persue the debtor on behalf of the beneficiaries.

If the deceased died intestate , and NO surving issue , the estate , along with the debt , passes to the Crown.

If any surviving issue , they will inherit both the estate , and the debt.

A sizeable debt ?

The Crown MIGHT persue ... usually a commercial decision , especially if the debtor is overseas ( Foreign Government contract for a UK property ... possible political implications ? )

Upto the the beneficiaries to decide on the same action ... or not.
