Plans to scrap Attendance Allowance

All about money
Done, i have signed it, hope it makes some difference.
Many thanks. Lets hope we can all make a difference! Mike
The criteria for CA & AA have always seemed unfair to me.

I don't qualify for CA because I'm over 65 & my wife doesn't qualify for AA because she's under 65.

Take a look at PiP which is replacing DLA. Maybe your wife would qualify for that
https://www.gov.uk/pip

Also have you had professional advice re carers Allowance and yourself. Whilst those over 65 don't qualify you can sometimes get a premium added to pensions. Ring the Advice Line for advice

Hi Rosemary,

Thanks for your reply,

I don't know why I still mentioned my wife not getting AA as she does now get PIP after we'd been advised about it on the forum a couple of years back.

I think many over 65 carers feel that it's odd that CA should stop just because you get a benefit such as the State Pension etc.
I'm another person unable to get CA as I now receive my pension. According to the government, both CA and the pension are both classed as an income substitute (can't remember the exact term) and you are only allowed one benefit in this category. So unfair, as it means we are caring for nothing.

Attendance Allowance Campaign- could not find original message here?

I read about the attendance allowance campaign and I wrote to my MP and he's advised me to write to Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP outlining my concerns, so I will do that asap!

I was unable to copy and paste the whole message and will try and do so later on today.

Here is the full reply re above:

Thank you for writing to me regarding the proposed changes to Attendance Allowance. I totally accept your concerns about how this move will impact on older disabled people and their ability to live an independent life. This is something the Work and Pensions Select Committee, which I chair, might wish to investigate, although we do currently have a large number of inquiries on the go.

You can submit your views on the future of Attendance Allowance as part of the Business Rates Retention consultation, which is available to view online here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultat ... -retention. You can respond to the consultation by emailing BRRconsultation@communities.gsi.gov.uk.

I have also found that the best way to lobby effectively is when constituents themselves write to the relevant ministers. In this way the sheer weight of public opinion is most effectively forced home. Might I suggest you therefore write to the Secretary of State at the Department of Communities and Local Government, Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid MP, on contactus@communities.gsi.gov.uk to personally outline your concerns about this change? If you do write please say you are copying the email to me, send me a copy of your email and I will write to the Department asking to be copied into the reply.

Best wishes and thanks again for your email.
