Changes to Council Tax reductions

Ha! I knew I was wasting my time when I completed the consultation survey from my local authority about the changes to council tax reductions. Image "All "working age" claimants will now have to pay 5.5% of their banded council tax. And what about working age claimants who can't work BECAUSE THEY'RE CARING???!!! Thanks, that's another £3 a week taken from my budget of £20 per week for food & drink. And as my local authority painstakingly tells me in their rubbish letter, "council tax reduction is not a benefit". Really? So what is it then...a disadvantage? And then they go on to tell me that they can't actually tell me how much I'll have to pay until March, and I mustn't phone them to find out how much more money I'll need to find.

Beam me up Scottie - you couldn't make it up could you?

That's terrible. Of course the people making the rules have no idea of trying to manage on a low income. Then the government wonder why people buy value "beef" burgers and don't eat enough fresh fruit and veg!

Yep had the same letter Ladybird. As I understand it, if you previously didn't have to pay Council Tax now you'll have to pay 6% of the total bill that your house is banded in. In addition I have to find more rent for my home as personal circumstances have changed slightly (and the change isn't an increased income) - so I'm currently sticking head in sand, not a wise move I know but can't face it at the moment.
