Is carers allowance a separate payment into your bank account or does universal credit with carers element cover carers allowance also?

If you claim Universal Credit with the carer's element, you can't claim Carers Allowance. They're what are known as "overlapping" benefits.

Do I need to tell carers allowance I get Universal Credit?
You must tell the Universal Credit office that you are a carer using your online journal or calling if you are a telephone claimant. This is because they will not automatically know this and apply the element, even if you are getting Carer's Allowance.
