Hi everyone,

I'm just letting you know about a hosted webchat we have over on Carers.org next week, with an Outreach Manager from the DWP's Carers Allowance Unit. The webchat is on Thursday the 11th April at 7pm; you can find out more here: http://www.carers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13399

And, if anyone can't make it to this webchat but would like to ask a question, you can post a message on the above thread, over on our website, and we'll do our best to get it answered for you Image

Best wishes,
Susannah,
Online support team,
Carers.org

I'd like to know why being over 65 & in receipt of a State Pension means I don't get CA.

I fail to see the relevance.

If you care for someone then you're a carer.

If you are a carer, then I believe you should get carers allowance, irrespective of whether or not you are a student, over 65, working etc. Family carers are the only people who have their first (caring) wage taken away if they also go out to work. CA is counted as an "income substitute" but caring is work, and should be recognised as such.

I'm not quite sure what answers can be expected from the outreach manger to be honest and that isn't defeatist talk from me, promise!

They aren't the ones that make the rules about who gets CA and who doesn't, it is government. The main question would be, as always, why is the amount so low? I doubt very much whether there will be an answer to that somehow.

I hope that the session is useful for anyone who has a practical question such as yours Caravan, although I have a sneaking suspicion the answer will be "because the government says so" or words to that effect. Image

Hi again,

Sorry I wasn't able to post a reminder, I have been on leave. I hope some of you will find this link to the webchat transcript useful: http://www.carers.org/2013-live-web-chats

Thanks,
