I reckon it is unearned income, and doesn't count as earnings, but if you are worried, check with the experts. And don't forget, if you pay income tax on it, or National Insurance, they count as deductions. And if not, you can save some small sum of £10 a week into a pension pot to get below the threshold. I get an occupational pension, and that doesnt need to be declared as earnings, and neither do income from investments.Lucy_1612 wrote:Hi there
Am new to this group so hope I'm posting in the right place!
I have a query re what constitutes 'earnings' for carer's allowance? I receive income from a property that is rented. It is not a business but is an inherited property now rented rather than sold.
The rental income I receive is marginally over the £110 per week threshold (it's £115).
Does rental income constitute 'earnings' in the same way as employment would?
Any clarification would be much appreciated as I'm really confused.
No, it isn't. You can probably earn up to £16,000 a year and still get carers allowance, if you are willing to claim for all the possible expenses.Jodie_1612 wrote:Hi

I know you can earn up to £110pw and not go over but is it the same saying you can earn up to £5700 per year ??
Many thanks
