Advice Please?

Hi, I am just about to Apply for the first time for Carers Benefit as my SSP (Sick Pay) ran out last Friday after Six Months, does SSP count as Income the same as a Wage does as I can see no mention of SSP on all the Help about Carers Allowance?

Ive no idea - and I bet that DWP would give wrong advice.
I recommend that you e-mail carersUK - adviceline@carersuk.org and ask them - they are very good at that sort of thing.

I agree with Crocus. DWP staff cannot be relied upon. Carers UK will be able to give you all the information you will need - because they specialise in carers issues.

Hello, I was 'on sick' for a good while before I officially left work to become a full time carer.

As far as I can remember SSP is classed as an income as it replaces a wage. If you were on benefits and then became ill you would not get SSP but a different benefit.

Best to ask the professionals here though too in case things have changed over the last year.
