One day I was driving my late husband's Range Rover, rather than my usual Escort, when a car came round a blind corner sliding sideways straight towards me, my side of the road. The Range Rover was written off,I needed a pair of knee replacements. The Police told me that if I'd been in my Escort I would have been killed. All this on a quiet country road that I know well, on a perfectly normal day. I sold the Escort, replaced the Range Rover with a Discovery. When I can't drive my Discovery, I'll stay home.
Daughter had a job to get home yesterday as all the garages were out of fuel. She found one that just had the high octane stuff, so was forced to pay over the odds.
The owner told her that he had sold three days worth of petrol in twenty minutes. Unbelievable! Image
All garages round here closed too
Lets hope reason returns.
Interesting piece by Charles Moore in the Telegraph:

After Mr Maude spoke, they swarmed to the petrol pumps.

But now that I have heard the Conservatives’ private explanation, which is being handed down to constituency associations by MPs, I begin to feel angry.

The private message is as follows. “This is our Thatcher moment. In order to defeat the coming miners’ strike, she stockpiled coal. When the strike came, she weathered it, and the Labour Party, tarred by the strike, was humiliated. In order to defeat the coming fuel drivers’ strike, we want supplies of petrol stockpiled. Then, if the strike comes, we will weather it, and Labour, in hock to the Unite union, will be blamed.”

Whipsnade was my childhood zoo, went so many times and how I resent it now being called LONDON Whipsnade. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !
Like Stansted in Essex, hubby's ex-local airport and Luton, my ex-local airport - we hate the LONDON tags on the front. GRRRR.
And Twycross is now grandson's childhood zoo, been so many times to that too.

I like the idea of having the fuel tanks half full. (instead of being half empty Image ). Must mean that we're looking on the positive side of things. TUT.
Large-ish queue at Morrisons on Thursday. But no queue at all yesterday....... why the sudden change?
Where the new terminal is at Stansted, used to be our house,
Back to point, whatever happened to common sense, if the Gov said nothing its their fault, if they say keep the tanks topped up, its their fault its a panic.
The quote was its ok to keep a bit of fuel in a can, where does it say fill 20 cans,
How can the family of a lady who chooses to decant fuel from a can without a spout into a glass jug next to a lighted cooker blame the Goverment for their own stupidity, the worlds gone mad, when we had the fuel strikes here, people queued for days, they beat up a man who went round the queue and pulled into the garage, unfortunatly he was the owner and no one got fuel for 2 more days, sheer stupidity on the part of people who loose all reason and can only think of themselves. Its a shame you cannot legislate against stupidity, the world would be a better place.
Not many garages in my part of the New Forest. One had run out of diesel, the other had both diesel and petrol. I've known it for 50 years, never seen it busier. Presumably when everyone has filled up in readiness for a strike that never happens (hopefully) no one will be buying any more and the price will go down loads? Just wishful thinking?
yes,that much is true too.
