Just watched Wales Today, the welsh news programme.
They have shown a few young people with learning disabilities who take part in the Special Olympics.Apparently, they are not considered "Elite", so British youngsters with learning disabilities do not get funding, each competitor has to raise around £2000 to be able to compete.

Where is the Disability Discrimination Act?These people will be getting a lot out of what they are doing, will be committing themselves to hard work just as much as able bodied and physically disabled Olympians.

People with a Learning Disability, even now not considered worthy of support in something such as the Olympics.

HI Lazydaisy,

Too true.

S belongs to special olympics. All the athletes train hard and those selected to compete at national and international level are serious athletes in their own right. The para-olympics gets much support and recognition in this country than special olympics. In America Special olympics gets much better recognition, sponsorship and so on.

I didn't realise that Melly. So is it only this country that do not financially support athletes with a learning disability?
