I am trying to find out if, I can still get carers allowence??? it is now 12 years since the benefits agency took it off of me....... because I was in receipt of an old age pension.
But a friend told me he is still getting his as well as his OAP

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATFULLY RECEIVED
Carers Allowance stops once the state pension kicks in as they are considered 'overlapping' benefits :(

the rules on eligibility are here: https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/eligibility

It is recommended that once State Pension kicks in you should still apply for CA - you won't actually get any money but it then becomes an 'under-lying' benefit and can open the door to the other benefits that you may be entitled to.

If your weekly income as a couple is less that £226.50 it might be worthwhile looking into Pension Credit to top it up - see here for details

Thankyou

But I find this so difficult to understand, when a MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT can get a very good salary and expenses + on top......... so they get two bites of the cherry, but I have to make do with one :-???
