It might be worth ringing your local adult Autism service and checking their referral route for yourself, whilst it will vary from area to area, I am aware of one where direct referrals can now be made by GPs but they are unaware of this and believe that it is a tertiary referral via the general mental health service which builds in delay and can lead to inappropriate diagnosis and treatment unless you are lucky enough to find someone with expertise in Aspergers.
