Do you think we could make a dossier of myths about being on benefits, publish it and try show people that populist rumours about benefits are just a load of crap

Myth 1: It's not fair disabled people get a free car
Truth: The car is not free, the claimant has to be receiving Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement to be entitled to a car under the motability scheme. To receive the car the claimant has to forgo their mobility component of their benefit which stands at around £48.65 per week.

Do you think this could work?

Myth 2

ALL Carers get Carers Allowance

no they don't - it stops when you reach pension age (just when your income takes a nose-dive and you need it most !) as you can't have CA and State Pension - whoever thought one up needs their head examining Image

ALL CARERS MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT GET CARERS ALLOWANCE.

Yes, thanks to the wonderful overlapping rule Image Image Image Makes me real mad!! We paid for our state pension all our working life! The robbing b**tards, non Carers can do what they like with their pensions, we cant!! Image

Some carers can only claim CA and nothing else from the benefit system because they have a partner working.

Another common misconception is that all disabled people and their carers get services free of charge. Most of my carees benefits are used up paying for respite and daycare.

Dragonlady, yes we need to shout that one from the rooftops.I get so cross. My husband doesn't bother with help at all from Social Services, otherwise we would not be able to afford to buy food.Much of Ben's money goes to help with care services and buying things when he is out(food, admission costs etc).

Folk are always saying to me, "Cant you get some help, surely it's there for the asking?" I tell them yes it is at a price and I cant afford it or want it as yet. I'm doing OK thanks. We'd hate strangers messing about in our home.
