Getting on a bit!

Today I am officially 53 years past my sell by date. My folks were told I was a sickly child and would not survive past 5. Well I woke up this morning and I am 58.

Got to thinking about what to expect in retirement. I am in the age bracket where I am expected to "work" past 60, I think until I am 64.

My CA will stop when I am 60 as they didn`t change the rules for that as far as I am aware, so will they shove me on JSA until I am 64?

Perhaps when politicians are making these changes they would look at the wider picture instead of leaving grey areas.

Everything could change again before then, and likely will, but sometimes it helps to have other opinions about the funny thoughts that pop in and out of my mind.

Take care
Meg

If you put a group of social workers in a room with a blackboard and a whiteboard they will all jump up to show you the grey areas Image

Meg I don't think it automatically stops at 60 - but from when you actually start to claim your state pension.
If you receive Carer's Allowance and start receiving State Pension at a higher rate than Carer's Allowance, you may stop receiving Carer's Allowance. But you'll continue to have an 'underlying entitlement' to it. For more about the effect of an underlying entitlement, see 'Carer's Allowance - effect on other benefits and entitlements'.
from the DirectGov website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CaringForSo ... G_10038111

I had a quick look and couldn't see any mention made of an there being an upper 'age' limit for claiming CA. It only talks about when/if you receive State Pension and as that is changing then the point at which you may stop receiving CA will change too. Also don't forget that many people are taking the option of claiming their State Pension later than the 'official' pension age to build up extra money in their pot.

Happy Birthday!

I'm 60 and get carer's allowance. The ages when you are eligible to receive a state pension have changed, I am not entitled until I'm 61-1/2'ish. It's much longer Image than you think until you can collect your state pension and your CA goes away.

I knew I would get better advice here than asking DWP who led me to believe CA would stop when I was 60.

Thank you everyone. All I have to do now is live that long!!

Simon, grim determination will hopefully prove them all wrong in your case too.

Take care
