Claiming expenses, how does it work? - Carers UK Forum

Claiming expenses, how does it work?

Share information, support and advice on all aspects of caring.
I have been receiving carers allowance for a few months now.

I had a job interview today, and have succeeded in it. The job pays me £7.83 (national minimum wage), over 25 hours Monday to Friday.

This will result me in £195.75.

After tax I will be £71.75 weekly over the threshold of £120.

Anyway to Marshall this?

I just found out about this today.
Hi C.

Claiming expenses from one's caree for caring ?

Not on !

Unless , of course , you come to a private arrangement with your caree to reimbuse you ?

In which case , more potential problems :

If you are seeking ways of marshalling weekly income to keep below the £ 120 limit , the following old but relevant thread will be of assistance :

There are ways and ... there are ways ... some significantly better than others.

Sorry I got the wrong end of the stick. I want to try and keep below the limit.

Reading the second link now.
No problem.

I've given up counting the number of grey areas many family / kinship carers experience daily.

One of the main areas being the precise relationship between a carer and the caree ... a partnership in all but name ... and the clash with current assumptions about how they interact ... taxation being just one of them.

One golden rule in CarerLand ... NEVER TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED !

It's very difficult for us, I have no knowledge of carers allowance except for I cannot earn over £120. I'm still confused, is pension pot the only way?
That appears to be the most popular route of choice.

The following link will tae you to Low incomes Tax Reform Group web site ... more ideas on how to marshall income :

https://www.litrg.org.uk/tax-guides/dis ... its-carers

That thread and the above link ... possible to gross £ 200+ per week and STILL not lose CA ... marshalling ...

GREEN PAPER threads ... latest updates include Ministers agreeing to look again at the £ 120 limit ... a taper instead of losing the whole of CA ... might be more later this year but ... for the time being , that cliff edge should be avoided at all costs ... one step / penny over and ... kiss goodbye to CA.

I really do not want to lose it. I could be the one that sits at home and goes for JSA etc. But I want to work, but have to care for too. Hence why I got a job!
Short of considering self employment , which has additional advantages for marshalling , the only legit ways to reduce income to keep within the limit to retain CA , are spelt out in the thread / link posted.

The Green " Rizla " Paper due lat this year ... not much left of this year ? ... MAY contain new proposals to ease this problem.

After all . if the Government want family / kinship carers to juggle work with caring , a few bones to do so would be par for the course ?

At the point of a bayonet / further freezing of benefits is hardly the Brittish Way ... until Austerity ?
pension pot has added bonus of enforced savings account and benefitting from tax relief plus can set up a regular contribution so far less paperwork
As history has shown , a gamble but ... the odds are pretty good ... even if you select what turns out to be a " Dead dog " of a fund " and need to
access the monies just as the stock market gets a case of vertigo ...1929 /1974 / 1987 / 2008 / 2019 ? style.
