Do I have to pay

Wondering if anyone has the information that I am looking for. I care for my husband who has a motor neurone disease and is unable to do anything for himself, even scratch an itch!
He has continuing care so the carers that we have twice a day for an hour and a few hours twice a week to sit in while I go out, are funded by the NHS. I want to know, if he goes into a nursing home because I cant manage anymore will I have to pay the bill.
Thanks for reading my post ........Carole

Hi Sundance.

If his care needs are all covered by the NHS, there's no bill. Otherwise there is a bill but it depends on circumstances. If you contact the helpline, they will be able to advise you better.

Care costs would be covered by NHS unless his needs change, tho the NHS would obviously need to be in agreement re the placement.

When Jill was in a care home for a year, she was whats known as an R4 ( Residential 4) R5 is for a Nursing home and the Council pick up the tab in both cases. We did have to pay £319 per month towards her care and this came from Jill's own weekly money. ie: Her State pension and Pension Credit.
If the NHS are already funding your partners needs, then surely they would continue to do so, though you may find yourself with less money as I did having to part fund Jill's care needs?

Carers UK help line will know, or the Citizens Advise.

Good luck Sundance. Image
