CONSERVATIVES - Carers UK Forum

CONSERVATIVES

Share information, support and advice on all aspects of caring.
We as carers will now have to look to the conservaives for help re the carers alowance this government is as they say just dead men walking .
Now you all know me ive been labour supporter for 40 years and trade union rep for 25 years but iam sad to say this so called party of the people is dead and burried.

Last year the conservative former leader IIAN DUNCAN SMITH issued a review the one good thing from his review was the issue of carers allowance he said that carers saved N.H.S. 80 billion £`s and the carers should have the allowance doubled to £100 per week .

CARERS UK SHOULD ASK THE CONSERVATIVES IF ELECTED WOULD THEY IMPLEMENT HIS REVIEW ,

GEORGE === GOT TO GO OLD DOLL AT HOSPITAL TODAY AND IAM SICK
not sure if this is any help ont hat front but i emailed david cameron about a month ago ( and actually got a response though not from him ) i asked what they were thinking of doing for disabled people/children and carers in the uk
here is the response i got

Dear Ben,
>
> Thank you very much for your e-mail.
>
> David Cameron has always regarded carers as the unsung heroes of our society. There are an estimated six million carers in the UK and each one plays a valuable and vital role. However, we believe the Government could be doing far more to support family and informal carers.
>
> As you may be aware, the Conservative Party has already announced a number of measures that we will implement when we reach Government. We shall ensure that every person that cares for someone else has the right to request flexible working hours so that they can manage their career and caring responsibilities in the best possible way. We will also ensure that everyone who wishes to have Direct Payments can do so to ensure that they can get the support and assistance that they need and want, rather than being forced to fit around the provision of the local authority. In addition, we want to establish clearer rights to respite care in order to recognise the role played by voluntary carers, without whom local social services would be wholly incapable of meeting the needs of the disabled and the chronically ill.
>
> We greatly appreciate and recognise the magnificent and unstinting work many carers carry out on a daily basis up and down the country. I assure you that we are committed to improving support for carers. Helping carers is the best way to help those they are caring for.
>
> Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.
>
> Yours sincerely

I did follow up the email though the reply to that one was less than heartening it was simply, thank you for your views
Bye

anyways hope that is of some importance or soemthing
That's a no then!!!
thats what i thought too belle....
it also left me wondering who to look to next because the lib dems surely are not worth bothering with
.
All any of the three main parties will do is re-shuffle where the money available is spent.
Conservatives and Lib/Dems know if they get into power they will inherit the same problems as Labour has now, so its in their interests not to make expansive/expensive promises.

If the Torys doubled CA it would be great for some and make no difference for others because they would loose other benefits that they are entitled to now.

The 150 million for extra respite care, quite a lot of that money will be used to pay the admin costs of distributing and allocating the money.

Carers need a proper income of at least £150 per week, plus respite care allowance that they can spend on respite as and how and when they want to.
If it cost 10 billion it is still care on the cheap.
.
well said cheril

There in lies the danger of swopping governments, they'll use the previous governments mis handling of everything under the sun to put of doing anything.

if labour were labour, instead of a new brand of tory basically a continuation of what has been there already,we would be looked after better.
The days of labour being left wing and Socialist and looking after the workers and the needy are long gone.
Everything now boils down to money, saving the richman from paying too much and protecting their wealth at the cost of the poorman who gets bled for every penny he can ill afford to pay.
