Carers UK General Election 2019 Manifesto

( NOTHING on free public transport or abolition of the abhorrent 21 Hour Rule ... those two alone would benefit more carers than any other policies in carer history. )

By contrast , our very own LORD KITCH ... everything wrong within CarerLand under one roof :

A good guide is to check for just how many of our injustices are covered by CUK's manifesto.

If a political party , would CUK gain your vote ???

( Fairer for Carers for instance ... would leave those claiming Carers Allowance worse off than in 1981.

https://www.carersuk.org/forum/social-a ... r%20carers)

( 1.2 million estimated to be in poverty ? Make that a minimum of 4 million ... Joseph Rowntree Foundation ... if CUK want to challenge that one ! )

Did CUK even bother to consult it's members BEFORE launching said manifesto ???

I am sad that this doesn't include mention of the broken case/social care system. Which amongst carers I know is one of the biggest frustrations - battling the system constantly for help that is never forthcoming.

The right to breaks is all well and good, but pointless if carees are not required to accept help in order for their carer to have some time off. Time and time again on here there are cases of carers being able to refuse care to the detriment of their care giver. As was the case with my Mum and Dad. I hate how carers rights are totally ignored in this respect. In no other "job" would you be required to work like this.

These would be my two further additions.

Thanks for your views so far on Carers UK's 'Manifesto for carers' - we passed these on to colleagues in our Policy and Public Affairs team.

The manifesto is based on the views of thousands of carers (e.g. the responses of the 8,000+ carers who completed our 2019 State of Caring Survey). It also draws on our own insights and other research.

In response to Sally's point, the manifesto explicitly calls in its first recommendation for carers to be at the heart of a reformed system of social care.

Any other comments are welcome and we'll pass these onto our policy colleagues. We will also be sharing the manifesto with all Carers UK members in our next members' email.

Michael

Just a copy of our Lord Kitch will suffice , Michael.

" There you go , sort that lot out ! "

2008 ... the last time CUK shared a table with the DWP on the finances side.

( One of the true BIBLES in Carerland. )

Carers Strategy ?

Look no further ... we have been doing what CUK , itself , should have doing ... keeping carers advised on matters !

After all , it is OUR future being discussed ... or not ... out there ... presumably , WE shall be asked for OUR views ?

How about Carers actually being recognised as a full time, low paid job?
Many carers do 100 hours a week while watching a loved family member fading away.

Only to be told "You're only a Carer" by a receptionist at our local GP..

This forum has become a joke to me, I've left on several occasions. But come back because I'm lonely.

So why the robotics, the lack of empathy. I have a 72 year old Woman (Mum) next door to me who relies on me.
I love her so dearly and I'd say she is the most spoilt 72 year old Woman in the world.

Why don't you open up. Stop with the theatrics, the posts. I think we are so alike...

Consider your hand shaken.

Important ?

Merely a former care with concerns.
