Share information, support and advice on all aspects of caring.
Morning guys!
Well as expected my sons PIP assessment scored nil points (Autism)..no surprise there really...yes of course I will appeal for him etc...just a question..my carer s allowance has ceased and also im working part time and will earn more than the £110 to still claim it but Im sure ive read somewhere that you can still have something that goes towards your pension? (Im 57)..not sure what this is?

Certainly dont want anything im not entitled too but just wanted some clarity …

Thank you in advance

It is completely wrong this has happened to you and your son and I hope you get it sorted out.

I hear what you are saying regarding entitlement the problem is not your son it is the assessor who in all likely hood has either never dealt with ASD (aside from a few lines of text in training) or probably knows themselves that your son should be getting it but fluffed the assessment regardless to meet their target quota but you appear very clued up so I would imagine while their conduct is absolutely disgusting it comes as no surprise.

In the same breath CA etc is supposed to reflect (does a poor job of it) on what you do every day for your son, it would cost the system a hell of alot more to adequately provide the sort of care/guidance to your son that you do.

Side note I believe the other benefit you are referring to was Carer's Credit (https://www.gov.uk/carers-credit) for NI gaps but I would still encourage you to use the available benefit calculators such as https://www.entitledto.co.uk/ and consider contacting CUK directly (phone/email) as well as Citizens Advice for support with your appeal

You might just as well use the oppertunity to do an "MOT" of sorts on the support systems in place for both yourself and your lad. I'm sure others will be along to respond in kind who can offer additional information but do know if you have any other questions we will always try to help/be supportive as best we can

Best wishes to you both - makes me very frustrated to see this situation inflicted on any family!
They have no idea/accountability when they allow blunders like this in terms of impact.
