Another presrcription muddle.

Yet again the repeat prescription process seems too difficult for some people.

I contacted my local boots last week and placed an order.
Supposed to be ready yesterday.
Contacted Boots, they said they hadnt received it back from surgery.
Contacted surgery. They don't have it, it must have gone to Boots.

Many more phone calls later the surgery said to come in and collect it. It's a reissue (or reprint).
Handed it in at Boots and they said 'it doesn't say reissue on it.'

I didn't care because at least I had the vital medication. However, on restocking the pill dispenser this morning, I find there is no morphine tablets in the order. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

This is the most important of TJ's medication. She cannot go without it over the weekend.

I need advice, how do I get some today. The surgery is closed but Boots is open. Help.

firstly - was the morphine included in the repeat prescription ? do you stil have the tear off half that shows all the drugs prescribed ?

second - get in touch with Boots and speak to the senior Pharmacist, explain the discrepancy and ask why it was left out. They can check TJ's previous 'orders' and see that she has had it regularly - and they should also be able to get hold of someone from your GP's to confirm that it should have been dispensed this time.

it may have just got overlooked in which case you should be able to collect it today - but if they can see that TJ has been taking it for a while the pharmacist may be able to dispense you enough to cover the weekend.

Prescriptions are the bane of my life, no sooner do I get them sorted out and a medication changes and I have to start all over again .

Morphine is a tricky one and I cannot see Boots dispensing it without another prescription despite it being on repeat so I think you will need to contact your surgery out-of-hours cover and hope that they have access to TJ's records, not all do, if they do not have access you will probably have to make an appointment to see an out-of-hours GP or request a home visit, I cannot see them prescribing morphine without proof that it is normally prescribed.

You can have an automatic repeat prescription where the GP signs the prescription to cover six months which the pharmacist then holds and uses to authorise dispensing, I find that this helps as long as there are no medication changes.

I have it sorted now. I contacted the out of hours service and arranged an appointment. I stopped by Boots to pick up an old prescription showing previous usage. Collected new prescription to cover until next Tuesday and collected tablets from chemist. PHEW!

I feel the need to make a complaint to the surgery next week. It seems to me that they mislaid the original prescription and then covered up by saying they reprinted it yesterday (Thursday). But the prescription, and I have a photocopy, doesn't say reprint and is dated Wednesday.

At least it's sorted and all I need to do is destress myself, get rid of this toothache and then I can carry on doing what I was supposed to be doing 3 hours ago.

We have been having a nightmare of a time with repeat prescriptions too,same thing Audrey, blood testing strips.Last week Boots had to lend us some to cover the weekend,(although I had ordered some, the surgery had for some reason, decided not to give us a prescription, but did not tell us).They are only giving us enough for five days at a time,we were getting enough for a month at a time. How can we keep Ben balanced if they will not allow us to monitor the diabetes?

Day before good friday I needed to collect Pauls Victoza his injection pen but couldnt get to chemist, I rang them and said are you open tomorrow Good Friday, the woman said yes we are open as usual, so Friday morning I goes down and they are closed!! He had no vitoza left so was without from Friday to the chemist opening again on Tuesday, I didnt half play hell when I went down!
