carers allowance payment changes weekly to fortnightly

Share information, support and advice on all aspects of caring.
I cant work out the reasoning with this carers allowance. If you are in receipt of old age pension your can't claim. I am still a full time carer regardless of my age. Please enlighten me if you can Image

I wish I could but I don't know if there's any reasoning to it Image
I don't think the government understand the concept of caring. They all seem to be pretty heartless.
Officially, it's down to not being able to receive two benefits that have the same basic purpose. Technically, it's known as the "overlapping benefit" rule, which dates back to 1910 or thereabouts.

Most ridiculous British laws:

1. It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament

2. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside-down

3. In Liverpool, it is illegal for a woman to be topless except as a clerk in a tropical fish store

4. Mince pies cannot be eaten on Christmas Day

5. In Scotland, if someone knocks on your door and requires the use of your toilet, you must let them enter

6. In the UK a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants, including in a policeman's helmet

7. The head of any dead whale found on the British coast automatically becomes the property of the King, and the tail of the Queen

8. It is illegal not to tell the tax man anything you do not want him to know, but legal not to tell him information you do not mind him knowing

9. It is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament in a suit of armour

10. In the city of York it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow
I once heard (can't reference it, sorry) that attempted suicide was an offence once punishable by hanging.
You can be imprisoned for attempting suicide in a public place. A friend of a friend found that one out the hard way.

I might write a letter to my MP and commit treason by sticking the stamp on upside down
