Do you care for someone?

The carers’ officer will be at Blaina hospital on November 23.

Stroke helpline

Every five minutes someone in the UK has a stroke, and this can happen to anyone of any age, including children and babies.

Eating a healthy diet, taking regular exercise, not smoking, and ensuring your blood pressure is normal can all help to prevent strokes.

For those in the borough looking after someone who has suffered a stroke, there is a Family and Carer Support Service, which also helps people living alone. It is free to people referred to the service, and can help with the issues they face.

The National Stroke Helpline number is 0845 3033 100, and our local contact is Anna Markham on 07903 402588.

A leg-up

Blaenau Gwent Leg Club has been relaunched recently, and provides a much needed service in a friendly, sociable setting.

The club meets every Thursday from 10.30am at the Community Centre, Raglan Terrace, Beaufort. If you would like more details, ring or leave a message on 01495 315369, or e-mail blaenaugwentlegclub@yahoo.co.uk

Pottery corner

Age Concern Gwent, in partnership with Communities First, is providing pottery sessions at the Stute, Powell Street, Abertillery.

The free sessions will be held every Friday throughout November from 1pm-3pm. Refreshments will be provided. All carers and the individuals they care for are welcome. Call Annette King 01495 321780 for more details.
