SSD are using staff with minimal training to cut costs. In my area, one of these people told a family that "six weeks ago I was a bus driver" and asked "When did your son catch Downs Syndrome?!" There was a storm of protest from families, as the annual review was not done properly.

I'm really grateful for the advice given here and am just going off to post my letter to the Locality Team Manager now!
I do know that he always deals with things very efficiently and promptly. I just hope I don't get this girl into trouble but they really do need to do employee appraisals.
Thanks again to all of you. :)

We all have to learn, but they are supposed to have sufficient training before they are let loose on the public. Clearly she has "an urgent need for further training"!

I do agree with that bowlingbun.
Of course with regards to the literacy bits I'm probably too demanding.
My husband tells me that the sort of computers they are given to use don't have 'spell checks' :o
I thought they were standard with every computer?
There's also a site called Grammarly which is worth exploring.

Really happy you are posting your letter. It is really important to point these things out. How can we have faith in these services if basic levels of communication are poor? We've had so many reports about my Dad full of mistakes, poor spelling, typos, etc. Whilst I understand that services are under pressure. How long does it take to read something back?? Not long really? This wouldn't be acceptable in my private sector job, which doesn't involve looking after the vulnerable! So certainly not acceptable in a job that absolutely requires the ability to communicate clearly and report accurately. Social workers, nurses etc are all qualified to degree level, which implies they have a certain degree of basic literacy as well. No excuse!

Sally,
She is absolutely not degree level :D Unless these days you don't need to exercise your brain to get a degree?!
My children could spell better when they were 7 years old.
