Support group launched

A NEW support group for victims of stroke and their families has been officially launched in Redditch by the mayor, Councillor David Hunt.

The new group, which is funded by Worcestershire Neighbourhood Network (WiNN), helps stroke survivors access social and leisure activities in their local community. It will also provide information, advice and emotional support for survivors as well as their families.

Chris Bennett, The Stroke Association's regional manager, said: "WiNN has given us a great opportunity to address some of the long-term support needs of stroke survivors, their families and carers in Redditch.

"We have been aware that this type of support has been urgently needed for some time.

"We're pleased to be able to work with many other local voluntary groups, which have been bought together by the WiNN initiative, to highlight the needs of older stroke survivors and their carers within their communities."

Mr Bennett added: "It is an important opportunity for us to build the confidence and skills of stroke survivors and carers we are working with to help them find new ways to support each other and reconnect to other social, leisure and learning opportunities available locally to them."
